Wow. McCain's crew dropped the ball on this one. The Quick Reaction Force has been nothing short of amazing in the last two months, but this was bad.

Every positive they highlighted about Palin could have been directly contrasted with an Obama position.

Every negative they highlighted about Obama could have been directly contrasted with a Palin policy.

The "contrasting" points were very disjointed. They would have been better served by providing more specifics.

All that being said, I think it will play well with people that don't follow politics as closely as I do

Ah, a fellow fan of Ace! Very nice, and a very nice quote from the Sarahcuda.

Most poignant line from Ace's liveblog of McCain's speech though:

Slublog: Every time I think he's building up to some awesome, he strangles the awesome with mediocracy.

There's something to be said for the dextrosphere's penchant for naked self-evaluation, and I think Slublog hit the nail on the head.

The Ace crowd slobbered over Palin's speech because... well, it was slobberworthy. They also yawned at McCain's speech because it was yawnworthy.

You just don't see that kind of honesty on the Left.

I hate to say it, but the Gov. Palin teleprompter thing has been kind of overblown. It scrolled ahead a line or two at some of the applause breaks, but she didn't actually wing the back half of the speech.

I was thrilled when I heard the initial report - that most of her speech was improv - and was heartbroken when I learned it wasn't true, but the interwebs are filled with anecdotes like this one:

Looks like the M4 to me. Or it might be a FATS rifle. FATS is an electronic simulator used for training soldier in combat shooting without actually having to risk accidentally shooting each other.
